Description

Written In The Stars - Hollywood Dreams - True Vintage

There are ballgown wedding dresses, and then there are Hollywood Dreams ballgowns. Written in the Stars belongs very firmly in the second camp.

This original preloved gown is a glorious sweep of brilliant white organza, built over oodles of net petticoats to create that fabulous full ballgown shape. The structured bodice comes down into a deep basque waist, with delicate straps and little three-dimensional organza flowers scattered amongst silver embroidered vines, tiny beads and crystals.

Those silver trails continue across the enormous skirt, appearing almost to meander over the organza rather than forming a heavy all-over pattern. And there is plenty of skirt to meander across. It sweeps round into a long train, with a row of domed covered buttons completing the back. It also has decent side seams which would allow the bodice to be let out - possibly by one size. The domes buttons can also be moved over a bit to add some room in the bust and/or the waist too. This dress is perfect for adding a corset back into to give some flexibility on size

Hollywood Dreams, designed by Marina Adamou, became known for precisely this sort of unapologetically glamorous bridal gown – corsetry, extravagant skirts and beautiful embellishment. I would place Written in the Stars around the late 1990s/early 2000s.

It is big. It is a little bit sparkly. It is most definitely not interested in quietly slipping into a room.
