Pearls and Paisley - Romantica of Devon - True Vintage

This is such a good example of an original 1990s wedding dress – and the beadwork is fabulous.

Made by Romantica of Devon in a very warm ivory satin, it has a long, elegant A-line shape with a softly scooped neckline and wide shoulder straps. The bodice is where all the action happens, with elaborate paisley patterns worked in pearls and beads around the neckline, continuing over the shoulders and around the back. Even the empire waistline has its own delicate beaded border.

I particularly like the way the skirt falls from that shaped waist. There are neat little pleats at the back giving it fullness and a modest puddle train without turning it into a huge ballgown, then the satin falls simply to the floor. It feels very grown-up 1990s bridal.

The colour deserves a mention. This is very warm ivory – almost creamy champagne in some lights – and it works beautifully with all that pearl embellishment.

A proper piece of 90s bridal history from a British name, and one for the bride who likes her vintage glamorous rather than frou-frou.

It's in overal good condition but some of the pearls have lost their lustre (see close up photo). In my opnion, it's not noticeable unless you loook very closely. It also has some small marks on the skirt towards the hem which should be removed with dry cleaning.
