Oh I love the dresses of the early 1990s! I can date this to the very early 90s quite confidently because I was making dresses exactly like this in those days - and always in silk dupion like this masterpiece.

I can well remember creating sharply pointed basque waists (we called them dropped waist in thise days ...) to give a wonderful elongated line, before the eruption of the skirt and the train.

The sleeves are the stand out here -  long gigot sleeves. Properly voluminous. Entirely unapologetic! The beaded embroidered central panel is echoed in the same detail in the centre.

And it wouldn't be the early 90s without a statement bow!

For her age, she's in really top top condition with the exception of one small mark on the side of the skirt. See photo - but to be honest, once the dress is on a mannequin I really struggle to find this mark in all the folds of the silk.She's got layers of net plus an inbuilt petticoat with a channel for a metal hoop. She's photographed here without a hoop and she' got plenty volume but a hoop wold make for easier walking (and for a warm day.)
