Gigi – Ian Stuart, Killer Queen Collection

Gigi comes from Ian Stuart’s 2012 Killer Queen collection, inspired by the great leading ladies of film and musicals. And she has exactly that sort of presence. This is Ian Stuart doing what he did brilliantly – taking a traditional bridal silhouette and giving it a thoroughly unexpected twist.

The strapless bodice is beautifully structured with soft pleats that are an Ian Stuart signature look. The bodice flows into a full princess skirt where Gigi really earns her name.

Bands of ivory tull fabric circle the skirt in graduating tiers, interspersed with spot tulle to create those wonderful architectural hoops. There’s movement and volume, but also a lovely cleanness to the design.

A row of covered buttons finishes the back before the skirt sweeps away into the train. 

Best of all, mine is an unworn sample with all her original Ian Stuart tags still attached. She’s ivory - not a pale ivory, a rich ivory - and approximately a UK size 12–14 – a rather special survivor from one of Ian Stuart’s most memorable collections.
