Fantasia - Rare Ian Stuart Gown

This is Ian Stuart in his stride.

An original designer gown with all the hallmarks of his work at the time: confident structure, clever illusion detailing and surface decoration that’s doing more than just looking pretty.

The silhouette is fit-and-flare, sculpted through the bodice, waist and hips before opening into a soft tulle fishtail. The base fabric is ivory, overlaid with densely hand-beaded tulle in a radiating pattern, using a mix of silver and warm champagne tones. The effect is beautifully dimensional — it catches the light without sparkle overload.

The neckline sits in a soft sweetheart, framed by illusion off-the-shoulder tulle straps that are delicately beaded and finished with fine draping over the shoulder. It’s a very Ian Stuart solution: strong support underneath, softness and movement on top. The bodice is properly engineered, with structure and shaping where you want it, so the dress holds its line all day.

The skirt releases into layers of airy ivory tulle rather than anything stiff or heavy — designed to move well, photograph beautifully, and feel lighter than it looks.

Preloved, but in excellent condition, and a wonderful example of Ian Stuart’s work during one of his most distinctive design periods.
