Country House- Dizzie Lizzie - True Vintage
There are dresses that dazzle, and there are dresses that simply stop you in your tracks. Country House belongs firmly in the second camp.
Designed by the British bridal house Dizzie Lizzie of Torquay in the late 90s early 2000s, this pure silk gown has all the hallmarks of understated luxury. The bodice is cut from beautiful ivory silk damask, woven with a subtle scrolling pattern, while the full skirt and sweeping train are crafted from smooth silk dupion with that unmistakable soft rustle that only real silk can make.
The slightly rounded square neckline is framed with gently pleated silk. It has straps wide enough to wear a bra under before flowing into a beautifully shaped basque waist. The skirt falls in generous folds from the hips, creating that wonderfully balanced silhouette that never really goes out of fashion. Turn around and you'll find a row of silk-covered buttons running the length of the back - one of those lovely finishing touches that always a favourite of mine.
Preloved and in beautiful condition, other than one small black mark on the hemline (this dress is long so you may need it taken up and this would be removed) Country House is proof that you don't need crystals, lace or layers of embellishment to make a statement. Sometimes the finest fabric, thoughtful design and expert dressmaking are more than enough.
Fancy adding sleeves - I've included a couple of photos of how that might look.
