Basque Affair - Allison Blake - True VIntage
Ah this one takes me back! I've still got dozens of sewing patterns of identical gowns that I made in the late 1980s and early 1990s ... so I've got hand on experience of knowing that this one is very true to its era.
It's in ivory silk dupion (weren't they all??) and has a basque waist - again another detail that nails this one to its period. And, if there was still any doubt, it has leg o' mutton sleeves, fastens on the back and sleeves with covered domes buttons and has contrast embroidery down the centre panel and either side of the back buttons.
The embroidery is in a taupe colour and reminds me of a medieval, renaissance vibe - so perfect for a celtic inspired or outdoor woodland ceremony - but equally at home in a church or country house.
A real trip down memory lane for me. I love it as it is - but you could also remove the sleeves if they overwhelmed you ... and if you were brave enough cut it into a mini!
Allison Blake was a smalll but very high quality label which is evidenced by the workmanship of this glorious wedding dress.
It's in great condition bar a couple of stubborn but now very faint marks on the skirt.
