Written in Silk - Dizzie Lizzie Couture - True Vintage
Designed by the independent British bridal house Dizzie Lizzie Couture of Torquay, this gown comes from a period when the company specialised in beautifully made silk gowns with classic proportions and exceptional fabrics. Long before heavily embellished dresses became the norm, designs like this relied on expert cutting and the quality of the silk to make their impression.
I can find no evidence that this dress has ever been worn. I date it to the late 90s. It's a strapless gown which scoops down in the centre front of the bodice. which has the classic basque shape. Detailed asymmetrical pleating across the bodice leads into the waist and the neckline is scattered with delicate crystal beading.
The skirt is voluminous and extends into a stunning train. Another sign of quality is the button and loop closure - no elastic loops here; all crafted from silk.
The dress is in excellent condition and I can find no evidence that this dress has ever been worn. It has however, it appears, been stored by hanger (which is great for it's condition) but the full skirt has settled into folds which are ever so (and I mean ever so) slightly marked - but this is only visible when the dress is smoothed out on the iroing board - it would never sit like this when worn so the marks are virtually invisible. There is one missing silk button loop at the back which can esily be replaced and a small tear at the very waistline of the skirt which cannot be seen once the dress buttons are fastened.
The dress has great seam allowances so could be let out by one further size.
It's made from pure fine raw silk. In the 1990s, Dizzie Lizzie dresses retailed between £1800 and £3500.
