The Savoy Affair - Rosa Clara

Rosa Clará has taken some of the loveliest elements of Art Deco design and incorporated them into this beautifully elaborate wedding gown.

The fitted bodice has a sweetheart neckline beneath a sheer illusion panel, with little cap sleeves and an extraordinary amount of beadwork. The embroidery has that distinctive 1920s influence, with scrolling, symmetrical patterns worked in tiny beads and sequins. The detail continues down the fitted skirt, gradually tapering away as the gown flares into layers of soft ivory tulle.

The back is particularly striking. A deep V of sheer tulle is covered in elaborate beading, with a row of crystal-style buttons running down the centre. It's beautifully executed, and I particularly like the way the embroidery frames the V, and also how there's still a lot og skin on show too.

The gown follows the figure through the waist and hips before opening into a soft fishtail skirt and train. It's a very flattering silhouette, and the contrast between the heavily embellished bodice and the lighter tulle skirt works extremely well.

An unworn Rosa Clará bridal sample for a bride who appreciates the elegance of the Jazz Age but wants a contemporary wedding dress. As with any beaded sample dress, there are some missing beads and a few which will need the stitching tidied up on too.
