Petal Power

Description
Some brides arrive with a vision that’s crystal clear, and Katrina was one of them. She knew she wanted flowers – not just printed into fabric, but with real depth and texture, petals that seemed alive. She’d been shopping elsewhere, shown pretty patterns but never the 3D detail she was dreaming of. So before we’d even met, her key question was: “Can you source fabric with 3D flowers?”
That was the easiest yes. When Katrina, her mum and her sisters came to the salon, I laid out a range of fabrics covered in delicate blossoms, each one different in its detail. Katrina chose the one that made her heart leap, and from there the design grew.
Her gown was crafted in soft tulle embellished with those all-important 3D flowers, every petal hand-stitched for movement and texture. The boned corset, cut low at the back, was overlaid with petals and finished with pearls in five different sizes. The effect was ethereal – light, layered, and full of dimension without ever feeling heavy.
The skirt hugged her hips before flaring out in a swirl of flowers, so that each step looked like she was gliding through her own secret garden. A custom veil scattered with the fabric flowers completed the look.
I loved making this dress, though I’ll admit I was slightly nervous waiting for the reaction of Katrina’s younger sister – who didn’t hold back on her opinions! Her final smile told me we’d nailed it.
On her wedding day, captured beautifully by Faodail Wedding Photography, Katrina looked like she was blooming in real time – radiant, unique, and every bit the bride she had imagined.
This gown was a joy to create, and a perfect reminder of what bespoke is all about: making a dress that feels utterly, unrepeatably yours.
