Medieval Revival - Romantica of Devon

There was a moment in the 1990s when we were all watching period dramas, and bridal fashion joined in. This original Romantica of Devon two piece gown has that romantic influence written all over it.

The fitted brocade bodice is beautifully shaped, with a softly squared sweetheart neckline, short sleeves and a wonderfully long pointed basque waist. Vertical stitched detailing through the centre front emphasises the shape – the woven floral pattern in the fabric does all the work.

The skirt is full, sweeping and gloriously bridal, it falls in generous folds from the under the basque waist of the corset and carries on into a fabulous long train. The plain fabric against the patterned bodice is a particularly nice combination and the very warm creamy gold colour suits the whole design perfectly.

The back deserves its own mention. The neckline dips into a V and the bodice fastens with a full corset lace-up, which means there is useful flexibility in the fit. At its current measurements the bust is approximately 43" and the waist 39", but the bodice could comfortably accommodate at least another size by adjusting the corset. The skirt also has scope for alteration if required.

A proper piece of 90s British bridal – romantic and beautifully shaped and a rare size find for a dress of this vintage. Probably going to suit someone 5ft5 or under.
