Legacy SIlk - Sassi Holford - True VIntage

This is a true Sassi Holford silk gown from the point where British bridal design had settled into its stride — confident, architectural, and far more about cut and cloth than theatrics.

Made from pure silk damask, the fabric has real depth and movement, with that unmistakable soft silk sheen. It's packed with couture detail including a complete interlining and beautiful braided finishing detail. It’s substantial without being heavy, and structured without feeling rigid — exactly what Sassi does best.

The silhouette is an elegant but grand A-line with a square neckline, fitted bodice and gently flared skirt. The sleeves are where the real craftsmanship shows: slim through the arm, then beautifully finished at the wrist with exquisite medieval-inspired detail. The front appears to be a coat which buttons down the centre with loops, over a dres , but it is in fact all one dress.

This gown has been expertly let out at the back bodice, making it a rare find for a vintage piece — allowing room for a fuller bust without compromising the original line or integrity of the dress. The work has been done properly, and it shows. Other than a tiny mark on one sleeve and small mark in lining of bodice (invisible when worn) it's immaculate. A true find from the late 1980s/early 1990s.
