La Paix – Ian Stuart, Runway Rebel Collection

There is something rather lovely about finding an Ian Stuart gown like this unworn, with its original tags still attached. La Paix is all romance, but with the clever construction and slightly theatrical flourish that made Ian Stuart dresses so recognisable.

The strapless sweetheart bodice is covered in delicate heavily beaded lace, continuing down over the skirt in beautifully irregular layers rather than finishing in one neat line. At the hip sits a wonderfully soft corsage, with fabric petals tumbling down the front of the gown. A real Ian Stuart feature. Beneath it, layers of lace lift and fall in a waterfall effect, allowing glimpses of the smoother skirt underneath.

It’s a proper wedding dress ... full skirt, beautiful train and plenty to look at – yet the fitted bodice keeps the whole silhouette beautifully balanced. And because this one is an original unworn sample with its tags still attached, it has been waiting rather a long time for its first bride.
