Hopelessly Devoted – True Vintage
I like to think that if Olivia Newton-John, in her sweet Sandra Dee phase, had married John Travolta in Grease, she’d have worn this very dress.
Hopelessly Devoted is a true vintage wedding gown from the late 1950s or very early 1960s, complete with its own good-luck charm – a lace horseshoe appliqué stitched proudly onto the skirt. It’s a detail that makes this dress as quirky as it is classic.
Crafted entirely from lace, the gown has a bateau neckline with a gentle bardot-style front band edged in white. That same edging repeats above the hemline and around the horseshoe motif for cohesion. Long sheer lace sleeves end in an elegant V down the hand, and the high-backed bodice seals the look – the picture of a modest vintage bride.
The full skirt floats over an inbuilt cotton petticoat, which has been spray-starched back into shape. The petticoat itself carries some small holes and nibbles at the hem, but none are visible when the gown is worn. Shown here with an extra underskirt (not included), she can be worn ballerina-length or full-length depending on your height.
Terrifically clean and white after expert laundry work, Hopelessly Devoted has aged beautifully and is ready for her next leading role. If you are truly hopelessly devoted… then this is the one that you want.
