"When life changes the plan, bespoke bridal can create a beautiful new one."
Description
There are some brides who stay with you long after the wedding day, and Fiona is one of them.
When she first came to see me, accompanied by her aunt, she fell in love with one of my sample gowns. It was a beautiful blush pink dress with delicate lace detailing, and it suited her perfectly. Sometimes you just know when a bride has found her dress.
Life, though, has a habit of changing the plans we make.
Between choosing her gown and walking down the aisle at Elsick House, Fiona faced some significant health challenges. One of the things she told me was how much she'd always imagined wearing a veil on her wedding day. Sadly, the traditional ways of wearing one simply weren't going to work anymore.
As a dressmaker, moments like these remind me that my job isn't really about making dresses. It's about finding solutions.
So instead of trying to make something unsuitable work, I designed something entirely new.
I created a bespoke Juliet cap using ivory and blush lace appliqués that echoed the detailing on her gown. Soft blush ostrich feathers added texture and picked up the gentle pink tones of her feather bolero, while a delicate Chantilly lace veil attached discreetly to the back. The veil could be removed after the ceremony, allowing Fiona to keep wearing the beautifully detailed cap throughout the celebrations.
Those are the sort of details I love creating. Pieces that are completely personal. Pieces that simply couldn't be bought from a shelf.
Seeing Fiona on her wedding day was incredibly moving. She looked elegant, joyful and completely herself. Unless you knew the journey she'd been on, you'd simply see a beautiful bride wearing a beautiful veil.
And perhaps that's exactly as it should be.
Every bespoke commission tells a story, but some remind me why I started sewing all those years ago. It's never just about fabric, lace and feathers. It's about listening, adapting and making sure every bride feels exactly how she deserves to feel when she catches her first glimpse of herself on her wedding morning.
Thank you, Fiona and Derek, for trusting me to play a small part in your day. It was an absolute privilege, and I wish you both a lifetime of happiness together. ❤️
I just adore these beautiful images which I am sharing with thanks to Zoe Rae Photography.
