Bold, Black and Beautiful

Description
Some brides come in knowing exactly what they want, and Fiona was one of them. With her wedding to Danny in Dundee fast approaching, there wasn’t time to find something off the peg – so we created the dress of her dreams instead. Her brief was simple and fabulous: a bold, black gown that felt elegant, sophisticated and completely her.
The starting point? Her beloved black DMs, which she planned to wear down the aisle with their laces swapped for ivory ribbon. From that detail, the whole look came to life.
The bodice was built with spiral boning – flexible enough to move in every direction, but supportive where it mattered. Over a duchesse satin under-layer, I used Alençon lace: richly embellished, corded, and textured with raised motifs that gave depth and drama.
Then came the skirt: more than 20 metres of soft chiffon, tiered and edged with horsehair braid, cascading over duchesse satin and flowing into a train. Light enough to swoosh, dramatic enough to own the room.
To finish, I sourced a black birdcage veil – the perfect final touch to Fiona’s striking vision.
It was an honour to make this gown. Fiona was bold, beautiful, and unapologetically herself – and this dress was every inch her personality in couture form.
