Older Brides Banned From Tricker Bridal Salon!
I’m Banning the Older Bride in the Salon
Not the brides of course – just their self-description as ‘older’. I’m scrapping this outdated label for good.
I have lost count of the number of brides who, before we even meet, open an email or DM with: "As an older bride…" And when they finally step into my salon, it’s often the first thing they say.
Let me tell you what I have never heard: a groom striding into a tailor’s and announcing, “I am an older groom – bring me only age-appropriate attire for my big day.”
No. Grooms do not do this.
But brides?
It seems many feel compelled to preface their wedding dress search with an apology, a disclaimer, or worse—a restriction on what they should or shouldn’t wear. And that, dear brides, stops here.
And what about the saddest phrase I hear from these brides?
“At my age, I don’t deserve all this.”
Why on earth not? You deserve all of it. Every fitting, every embellishment, every joyous, giddy moment of playing dress-up with a glass of fizz in hand.
Another one:
“I should wear a tea-length dress.”
Why? Will those extra four inches of hem to the floor suddenly cause a scandal? No. The only rule about dress length is that there are no rules.
“I shouldn’t wear white.”
This one puzzles me. White gave up its battle to symbolise ‘bridal purity’ a long, LONG time ago. In fact, let’s be honest—most bridal gowns aren’t even technically white. Give 100 men in the street a piece of ivory bridal fabric, and 101 of them will confidently declare it white.
Then there’s this classic:
“I’ve been married before, so…”
So what? Does a previous marriage mean you have to dial down the joy this time around? This isn’t a second-hand love story. This is your love story, in this moment, in this chapter of your life. You know yourself better. You know what you want. You know this is for keeps. Why, then, would you compromise on your dress? Why would you compromise on anything?
So, from now on, I refuse to work with ‘older brides.’
I work with brides—full stop. And in my salon, every bride gets to feel incredible, celebrated, and utterly themselves.
No disclaimers necessary.
